Gaia and her pet elephant. Two denizens of the living Earth
This blog has a new name: formerly “The Proud Holobionts,” then “The Carbon Connection,” it is now “Living Earth.”
Sorry for this Goldilocks-style wavering, but I am trying to move this blog to something that may have at least a modest impact. Most people found the “holobiont” concept too abstruse and unknown, but “The Carbon Connection” was a little too narrow. I do think that the carbon cycle is the backbone of the ecosphere; but the story involves also other cycles. Besides, having carbon in the title placed the blog in competition with the many activist blogs and sites that speak a lot about carbon but don’t know why.
So “Living Earth” is more understandable than “The Proud Holobionts” and less narrow than “The Carbon Connection.” It allows us to be a little Gaian, but also to discuss scientific matters in a rigorous manner. And we can still mention holobionts — difficult for most people to understand, but a fundamental concept in system science and in the science of the ecosphere.
And onward we go, fellow holobionts!
Its also the name of the soil association members newsletter in uk. No problem, its a good name to use appropriately
For those who dabble in Biblical, Plane or Flat earth, here is a summation that you might get a kick out of:
